Coco chips are small pieces made from coconut husks that are used in potting soil or mixed with coco peat to regulate the aeration and moisture level of the growing medium. They are popular substrate for aroid and ordchid growers.

Hydration: Coco coir chips can be used to keep hydroponic gardens hydrated.

  • Bark substitute: Spread them over flower beds in place of bark to keep gardens moist while still allowing air flow.

  • Aeration medium: Suitable as an organic aeration medium for coarser blends and aroid mixes.

  • Drainage and air porosity: Some potting soil producers change from bark to Coco-chips as an additive to improve drainage and air porosity in their potting soil.

  • Moisture retention: The chips retain moisture, reducing the frequency of watering.

Because of their moisture retentive properties, Coco Chips are a popular substitute for sphagnum moss in climbing “aroid” poles. Check out our Coco Chips poles that are available in a variety of sizes and styles!
